My name is Opal; I am 60+ years old and have had right ear pain for no apparent reason.  I have gone to many doctors over the years and not found one who could really solve the problem, not even my regular GP.  I was getting very frustrated.  I have retired and had hoped that not teaching would relax me and the ear pain would go away. No such luck.

I have seen Dr. Loy for almost two months and I am very, very happy with the results so far.  Dr. Loy explained that his treatment is long and may take up to a year to complete. I wear my appliance 24/7, but I have not learned to eat with it in my mouth. The earaches that I have had for 30 plus years have almost disappeared. He fine-tunes my appliance each time I come into the office.  My jaw still moves some and he makes corrections that are comfortable.  Everyone I have seen in the past, have said I have a sensitive ear, or I have fluid in my ear.  I had a tube put in my right ear and it helped some, then I got an ear infection.

Dr. Loy explained that I have TMJ.  I only have pain in my right ear.  He said that you do not have to have both ears in pain.  We discussed my other symptoms and he related each to TMJ.  I am very happy that my ear specialist recommended Dr. Loy.  The specialist said he had done all he knew to do.  He had heard of Dr. Loy and recommended I try.  It worked!

After years of hearing my jaw pop while eating, it had finally gotten to the point it was popping when I spoke. I decided to finally get it checked out. Many referrals later, I was diagnosed with TMD and sent to see Dr. Loy. I was told he was an expert at treating this type of joint problem by specialists and my experience concurs with their assessment. Dr. Loy was always straightforward with me about what we were doing and what to expect at all points during my treatment.

It is just over a year of treatment as I write this and my TMD has vastly improved. I don’t hear the popping in my mouth nearly as much and I have a greater range of movement with my jaw. To my surprise, headaches I would typically get each afternoon went away and my hearing improved. These were problems I either didn’t really notice much or wouldn’t have thought would be associated with my jaw popping problem. My treatment has really improved my everyday enjoyment of life.

I am a 28 year old woman who had an injury to my jaw when I was around 10 years of age that left it quite crooked. My jaw always clicked when I ate but apart from that was fine. As I got older I developed more pain associated with the jaw joints as they moved in and out of where they should be. Finally I decided to have it looked at, not wanting it to get worse. I was referred to Dr. Loy, being told "he is the only one around here that can fix this...and I hear really good things about him".

When Dr. Loy gave me my splint at the beginning of treatment I did somewhat of an eye roll that I would have to wear it 24/7 to begin with. However, after just a few weeks I could see a difference. I never knew that I had a headache every single day until I no longer did. I have worn my splint for only 2 months and while my jaw still clicks it has aligned correctly and I am pain free!

Dr. Loy, his staff and his treatment are wonderful! They make you feel very comfortable and free to ask questions. Dr. Loy is clear in his direction and very willing to work with any special circumstances you have. They always make you feel like they have your best interests at heart. This is one dentist you should not be nervous to visit!
